John C. Reilly will guide Jennifer Lawrence through The Hunger Games

Casting news for THE HUNGER GAMES is still going on as this past week it was announced that John C. Reilly will most likely board as Haymitch Abernathy and Paula Malcomson will play Katniss and Primrose Everdeen’s mother. For those unfamiliar with the books by Suzanne Collins, THE HUNGER GAMES follows Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) who represents District 12 in The Hunger Games, which is a battle to the death between teenagers ages 12-18 in the twelve districts of their country. Haymitch Abernathy is a former winner of the games and will play a mentor to Katniss and her fellow District 12 competitor Peeta Mellark (to be played by Josh Hutcherson). Filming should be starting in the next few months with a theatrical release of March 23, 2012.

I will admit that I resisted The Hunger Games craze until this past weekend and now I’m terribly interested to see the film. I think John C. Reilly is an excellent choice for the drunkard Haymitch Abernathy and Paula Malcomson (television’s ‘Sons of Anarchy’) seems to be a pretty good fit (looks wise) to play the role of the Everdeen’s mother. I’m sure there will still be some casting news happening in the next few weeks so stay tuned.
