James McTeigue (V FOR VENDETTA) has been working on the Edgar Allan Poe thriller, THE RAVEN for quite some time now. The film is due out March 9, 2012 and stars John Cusack as the dark southern poet. New photos from the film showed up online over the weekend giving us more of a look into the world of Poe.
Several big name stars were being looked at for the part, but ultimately Cusack won out. The actor said this on the role, “This is the type of part I have fought for. I’m always dying to do more character-driven work, and it is hard to find the right canvas.” He went on to call Poe the “godfather of goth” and commented on his personality, “He was quite a ladies’ man and a bit of a rock star. [Poe] could be part of an intellectual circle, then turn around and hang out with the dregs of the gutter.”
Synopsis: “In the gritty thriller, Edgar Allen Poe joins forces with a young Baltimore detective (Luke Evans) to hunt down a mad serial killer who’s using Poe’s own works as the basis in a string of brutal murders. Directed by James McTeigue (V For Vendetta), the film also stars Alice Eve, Brendan Gleeson and Oliver Jackson-Cohen.”
