Johnny Depp and Disney look set for Alice In Wonderland 2
For those of you that thought THE LONE RANGER might have soured the money-making relationship that Johnny Depp and Disney have built up over the past few years, you’d be wrong. Because Disney knows that sequels are the real way to make money and with that in mind, Johnny Depp is reportedly close to signing on the dotted line for ALICE IN WONDERLAND 2. The original ALICE IN WONDERLAND (click the link to read our review) was helmed by Tim Burton, but James Bobin (THE MUPPETS) will be handling directing duties this time around.
Linda Wolverton wrote the original screenplay and is again providing the script for the sequel. It’s a little unclear where the sequel will take the Mad Hatter and Alice since the original film wasn’t really an adaptation of Charles Lutwidge Dodgson’s (who went by the pseudonym Lewis Carroll) novels. Obviously, there’s more than enough material in his books to make another movie, but we don’t know how Wolverton will be tying them together. It’s also unclear whether the other stars from ALICE IN WONDERLAND will return, such as Anne Hathaway, Helena Bonham Carter, Crispin Glover and Mia Wasikowska. My guess is that with Depp on board, Disney will be able to get anyone else they want. (Deadline)
