Going into the trailer for comedy THE WATCH (formerly known as NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH), I felt like I had a general grasp of what was going on, but I was more off base than I originally thought. Jonah Hill, Ben Stiller and Vince Vaughn appeared to be in an off-color comedy about a group of neighbors who were protecting their neighborhood but THE WATCH appears to be much, much more than that. As in they are protecting the Earth from aliens that appear to hang out at Costco.

Directed by Akiva Schaffer, THE WATCH was written by comedy team Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg and stars: Jonah Hill, Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn and Richard Ayoade. The small group must fight off an impending alien invasion. On paper it doesn’t sound too exciting, but if you like R-rated comedies then you will surely like this. Just watch the trailer below and see for yourself. THE WATCH is set to hit theaters on July 27, 2012.

Ben Stiller and Vince Vaughn have had pretty strong comedic careers, but man has Jonah Hill really come out of the gate hard and fast. Jonah Hill also has a strong comedic background, but he’s really showing off his stuff in the drama department as well. Sure, teaming up with Brad Pitt is always a good way to keep your career on top, but it doesn’t always get you an Academy Award nomination. Jonah Hill is on the brink of becoming a very serious actor and I can’t wait to see what he has in store for us in the next couple of years. Until then I’ll be happy watching Jonah Hill take on comedy in the form of 21 JUMP STREET and THE WATCH, I just hope he doesn’t stay away from drama for too long.
