Jonathan Rhys Meyers is reportedly in talks to join Star Wars: Episode VII

Let me preface everything you’re about to read with the line that this is purely rumor at this point and nothing should be banked on until an official representative from Lucasfilm or Disney step forward and announce it as fact.  But no sooner does Lucasfilm CEO Kathleen Kennedy let it be known that they plan on being upfront and open about Star Wars news than they get scooped by a movie website.  Latino Review is reporting that Jonathan Rhys Meyers is reportedly in talks to join STAR WARS: EPISODE VII.  Obviously, this is a major announcement about a major film, but before you start doubting the news, remember that Jonathan Rhys Meyers does have a connection to J.J. Abrams.  He appeared in MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE III and supposedly has remained friends with Abrams.  If true, the casting proves that Abrams is going after talented actors to fill the open roles and Meyers is a pretty decent choice (see an episode of ‘The Tudors’ for reference), regardless of what capacity Abrams has in mind for him.  Speaking of which, we don’t know what Abrams has planned as the source wasn’t specific as to what role Meyers would be playing.

So far, we know that Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher are all going to return for STAR WARS: EPISODE VII, but we’re still in the dark to how big a part they’ll be playing.  But if the Jonathan Rhys Meyers story turns out to be true, you can expect more details to be revealed soon.  The J.J. Abrams directed, Michael Arndt written sequel hits theaters in the summer of 2015.
