Joseph Gordon-Levitt joins Joel Edgerton and Jim Sturgess in the chase for Guardians of the Galaxy lead
The race for the lead role of Peter Quill in Marvel’s GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY just got a little more interesting as Joseph Gordon-Levitt has joined the mix. It was believed that the lead was narrowed down to Joel Edgerton, Jack Huston (‘Boardwalk Empire’ and the new Guiness Black commercials), Jim Sturgess, Lee Pace and Eddie Redmayne, but now it seems JGL has thrown himself into the running. This, of course, coming after reports surfaced that Joseph Gordon-Levitt would be playing Batman in the Justice League movie. It’s unclear as to whether Joseph Gordon-Levitt was officially offered the role or if he was just someone Marvel was wishing for.
Admittedly, I’m a conspiracy theorist and maybe that’s getting the best of me here, but I’m betting Joseph Gordon-Levitt has no intention of starring in GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, but his agent is using this as a ploy to get his price up for that rumored Justice League movie. I know nothing is official, but JGL as Batman makes too much sense not to happen. Or, maybe Joseph Gordon-Levitt is legitimately interested in starring in Guardians. It just seems strange that since he’s starting to become a bigger and bigger star, he’d take a role, even a lead role, in what is generally considered a b-group of sueperheroes. If I was a huge Guardians of the Galaxy fan, I wouldn’t pin my hopes on JGL. (Deadline)
