Josh Brolin and Elizabeth Olsen star in the first red band trailer for Oldboy
After years of development and numerous cast and director changes, the English language remake of Chan-wook Park’s masterful OLDBOY finally found a home with director Spike Lee and star Josh Brolin. And today, we have the first R-rated red band trailer for the thriller. If you haven’t seen the original, then know that it’s a very violent film with a “shocking” (that’s a relative term depending on your viewpoint) ending. Personally, I was afraid that the remake would hold back and wouldn’t try to push the limits. It appears I was wrong as this trailer appears to go all out in terms of violence and thrills. This gives me hope that Spike Lee got this one right. OLDBOY stars Josh Brolin, Elizabeth Olsen, Sharlto Copley, Samuel L. Jackson, Michael Imperioli, Lance Reddick, Rami Malek, Max Casella and Hannah Ware. The Spike Lee directed film hits theaters on October 25th, 2013.
The official OLDBOY synopsis: A provocative, visceral thriller that follows the story of an advertising executive (Josh Brolin) who is abruptly kidnapped and held hostage for 20 years in solitary confinement. When he is inexplicably released, he embarks on an obsessive mission to discover who orchestrated his bizarre and torturous punishment only to find he is still trapped in a web of conspiracy and torment.
