Josh Brolin and Elizabeth Olsen in new images from Spike Lee's Oldboy
The jury is still out on Spike Lee’s remake of Park Chan-Wook’s OLDBOY. A lot of fans can’t get past the very idea of remaking such a great film, but it’s here now and so we all have to deal with it. Spike Lee has repeatedly said he’s making his own film and not remaking the original and I was inclined to believe him until I saw the first trailer. Since it seems to have followed the exact same outline as Chan-Wook’s film, I’m more inclined to think this is just a straight remake. I’ll let you decide if that was needed or not. OLDBOY stars Josh Brolin, Elizabeth Olsen, Sharlto Copley, Samuel L. Jackson, Michael Imperioli, Lance Reddick, Rami Malek, Max Casella and Hannah Ware. The Spike Lee directed film hits theaters on October 25th, 2013.
The official OLDBOY synopsis: A provocative, visceral thriller that follows the story of an advertising executive (Josh Brolin) who is abruptly kidnapped and held hostage for 20 years in solitary confinement. When he is inexplicably released, he embarks on an obsessive mission to discover who orchestrated his bizarre and torturous punishment only to find he is still trapped in a web of conspiracy and torment.
