Josh Brolin joins Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon in Inherent Vice
GOONIES star Josh Brolin has joined the very exciting cast behind Paul Thomas Anderson’s INHERENT VICE. Josh Brolin has easily shot into the realm of one of my favorite actors with a variety of characters in many amazing films and I have no doubt he will elevate this project as well. The real star of INHERENT VICE though, is director Paul Thomas Anderson. I recently watched MAGNOLIA again and immediately reminded how incredible the film was and longed for something like that to come out again. I’m hoping Anderson’s return to ensemble casting is a sign that we will get just that. I know many critics who prefer his more recent work in THERE WILL BE BLOOD and THE MASTER (both fine films), but I’m partial to BOOGIE NIGHTS and MAGNOLIA. Directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, INHERENT VICE currently will star Joaquin Phoenix, Josh Brolin, Reese Witherspoon, Owen Wilson, Benicio Del Toro, Jena Malone, and Kevin J. Anderson. Sean Penn is also still rumored to be circling the project. (Deadline)
The official synopsis of Thomas Pynchon’s INHERENT VICE: In this lively yarn, Thomas Pynchon, working in an unaccustomed genre that is at once exciting and accessible, provides a classic illustration of the principle that if you can remember the sixties, you weren’t there. It’s been a while since Doc Sportello has seen his ex- girlfriend. Suddenly she shows up with a story about a plot to kidnap a billionaire land developer whom she just happens to be in love with. It’s the tail end of the psychedelic sixties in L.A., and Doc knows that “love” is another of those words going around at the moment, like “trip” or “groovy,” except that this one usually leads to trouble. Undeniably one of the most influential writers at work today, Pynchon has penned another unforgettable book.
