Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth and Hunter Parrish testing for male leads in Hunger Games; Alex Pettyfer is out

Casting for the two male leads in the upcoming THE HUNGER GAMES is well underway and we’re shocked to see Alex Pettyfer is no longer in the running for either role. However, there are a couple of known names up for Peeta Mellark and they are: Josh Hutcherson (THE KIDS ARE ALL RIGHT), Hunter Parrish (WEEDS), Alexander Ludwig (RACE TO WITCH MOUNTAIN), Evan Peters (KICK-ASS) and Lucas Till (X-MEN: FIRST CLASS). Mellark is the love interest for Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) while the other male lead, Gale, is her best friend at home that has taught her all of her survival skills. Testing for the part of Gale we have: Liam Hemsworth (THE LAST SONG), David Henrie (television’s WIZARDS OF WAVERLY PLACE), Robbie Amell (television’s UNNATURAL HISTORY) and Drew Roy (SECRETARIAT). It’ll be interesting to see what direction director Gary Ross will take, will he want a couple of actors who have known names to star alongside Lawrence and pump up the marquee, or does he just want a few good lesser known actors to support her and help her shine on screen? We’ll find out soon enough. THE HUNGER GAMES hits theaters on March 23, 2012.
That leaves us with Alex Pettyfer– what films does he have that he is still attached to? Well, he’s out for THE HUNGER GAMES, he turned down THE IMMORTAL INSTRUMENTS and he’s no longer attached to THE SEVENTH SON or THE BOURNE LEGACY. Those are four major franchises that he has either turned down or not made it far into the selection process for, I’ll let you come to your own conclusions.
