Julia Ormond joins Emma Watson and Michelle Williams in My Week With Marilyn

Posted by: Brad Sturdivant

Julia Ormond and Dougray Scott have joined the already impressive cast of MY WEEK WITH MARILYN that includes Michelle Williams, Emma Watson, Derek Jacobi, Kenneth Branagh, Judi Dench, Dominic Cooper and Eddie Redmayne.  The film follows the life of Marilyn Monroe (Williams) for one week when she escaped her pressure-filled life with the assistant (Redmayne) on the set of her movie THE PRINCE AND THE SHOWGIRL.  Ormond will play Vivien Leigh, Scott is Arthur Miller and Branagh is Laurence Olivier.  All of these casting choices seem okay with one glaring exception; Michelle Williams as Marilyn Monroe.  I think Williams is a fine actress, but Marilyn Monroe?  It would be hard for anyone to play Marilyn, but Williams just doesn’t have the personality or the sex appeal to make it work.

The other big part of this is the news of Julia Ormond getting another decent role in a film.  I still remember back to her LEGENDS OF THE FALL and FIRST KNIGHT days when she was a hot commodity as a Hollywood leading lady.  Hopefully she can build on this and return to leading lady status.  The film will be directed by Simon Curtis.
