Kate Winslet set to star in Kenneth Branagh's The Guernsey Literary And Potato Peel Pie Society
After dabbling with big budget superhero films with THOR, director Kenneth Branagh has decided to go back to what he does best a serious, dramatic adaptation of a beloved book. Next up for Branagh is THE GUERNSEY LITERARY AND POTATO PEEL PIE SOCIETY, based off the novel of the same name by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Burrows. I’ve never heard of the book, but if I came across it in a book store, I would assume it was a children’s book, but only because I didn’t know what a “Guernsey” was (it’s a British island in the Channel islands). But the book is actually about a female magazine writer that befriends a man on the island that’s detailing life under Nazi rule in WWII. She ends up meeting him in Jersey and, of course, romance ensues.
To help Branagh shake off THOR, he’s enlisted the help of Kate Winslet, who will be playing the lead in the film. No word yet on start dates, but I think we all know this will come out in time for awards season, either this year or next.
