Keanu Reeves is one of the ‘Passengers’

Keanu Reeves seems to have been missing from the big screen for a while besides 2008’s lackluster, THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL. It’s now reported that he is to star in PASSENGERS, a new attempt for Morgan Creek to try bigger-budget projects. The film is directed by Gabriele Muccino (THE PURSUIT OF HAPPYNESS) and is being described as an “Adam and Eve in space” storyline. Reeves will be Adam while Eve has yet to be cast. That short-term explanation sounds a bit cheesy but after reading a longer version of the script from Jon Spaihts, I’m a bit more intrigued. Shooting is to begin next January.
Set in the future, PASSENGERS centers on Jim Preston (Reeves), a mechanic on a 120-year journey to a distant colonized planet in another galaxy, who becomes the first traveler to experience pod hibernation failure. Having woken up 100 years too soon, he is stranded in the world of an interstellar spaceship with only robots and androids for companionship.
A year into his journey, he decides to wake up a fellow passenger, a beautiful journalist named Aurora. They fall in love but must soon deal not only with the revelation of Jim’s misjudged act of waking her but a major malfunction of the ship itself.
