Kristen Stewart offered role alongside Garrett Hedlund in Akira

Casting rumors and offers continue to fly as the filmmakers for the long gestating AKIRA adaptation try to nail down a solid cast to carry out the high concept film. But even though many actors and actresses have been linked to the film, Garrett Hedlund is the only actor to officially sign on. But it was only a matter of time before an offer went out to a female lead and it seems the filmmakers want Kristen Stewart to take the role of Kei, a love interest for Hedlund’s Kaneda. If she accepts, then this would be a reteaming for K-Stew and Hedlund, who will appear together in the Jack Kerouac adaptation ON THE ROAD.
The whole idea of an adaptation of the famous anime film AKIRA doesn’t sit well to me, but with a cast that could possibly include Hedlund, Stewart, Gary Oldman and Helena Bonham Carter, it definitely has potential. But I still think director Jaume Collet-Serra still has a long way to go.
