Kurt Russell joins Leonardo DiCaprio and Jamie Foxx in Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained

Many of us were disappointed when Kevin Costner dropped out of Quentin Tarantino’s upcoming DJANGO UNCHAINED. Costner was slated to play Ace Woody, the right-hand man of Calvin Candie (to be played by Leonardo DiCaprio). The role is sure to be controversial since Ace’s job is to “train” Calvin’s slaves. Although “scheduling conflicts” were cited as the reason for Costner’s departure, many felt that Costner just didn’t have the stomach for the role. So now Tarantino has called on his go-to backup, Kurt Russell. If you remember, Russell was also the guy that replaced Mickey Rourke in DEATH PROOF. I would have liked to see Costner in such a unique and against-type role, but Russell is a fine replacement. Russell joins a cast that also includes Jamie Foxx, Christoph Waltz, Samuel L. Jackson, Gerald McRaney, Dennis Christopher and Michael K. Williams.
Along with the addition of Kurt Russell, Laura Cayouette also joined the film. Cayouette had a small role in KILL BILL VOLUME 2. DJANGO UNCHAINED hits theaters on December 25th.
