Leonardo DiCaprio, Carey Mulligan and Tobey Maguire live the high life in new trailer for The Great Gatsby

Leonardo DiCaprio in The Great Gatsby trailer

Even though his resume is relatively short, Baz Luhrmann is probably in my top five list of favorite directors. His films are always imaginative, over the top and are just plain fun to watch. Even if you don’t really enjoy the story or actual film (i.e. AUSTRALIA) the experience itself is just breath taking. Oh, and if you add in Leonardo DiCaprio as one of the leads that doesn’t hurt either.

Sadly, THE GREAT GATSBY was one of those novels I failed to read back in college so I won’t be able to give you an in depth synopsis, but I’ll give you enough to get by. THE GREAT GATSBY follows Nick Carraway (Tobey Maguire), who’s a Midwesterner transplanted to Long Island living next to his eccentric neighbor Jay Gatsby (Leonardo DiCaprio). Mr. Gatsby’s mysterious past and extravagant lifestyle fascinate Nick, but when Nick is pulled into the inner circle of Gatsby’s life he sees what pitfalls lie within such a lifestyle. THE GREAT GATSBY is again directed by Baz Luhrmann and stars: Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire, Carey Mulligan, Isla Fisher, Joel Edgerton, Jason Clarke, Elizabeth Debicki and Amitabh Bachchan. It was shot in 3D and opens in theaters on December 25, 2012.

It’s going to be a Leonardo DiCaprio Christmas in 2012 as the talented actor has two films coming out on that day: THE GREAT GATSBY and Quentin Tarantino’s spaghetti Western DJANGO UNCHAINED. Leonardo DiCaprio is also hard at work on Martin Scorsese’s next film THE WOLF OF WALL STREET alongside Jonah Hill that will come out next year. Maybe this is the year Leonardo DiCaprio will win an Academy Award. With such great films under his belt I don’t know why the Academy shuns him, so not fair.
