Mark Strong joins James McAvoy in Welcome to the Punch

One of the films to keep an eye out for is WELCOME TO THE PUNCH from writer-director Eran Creevy. James McAvoy has been attached for a bit and today we’re learning that Mark Strong (THE WAY BACK and SHERLOCK HOLMES) has signed on as well. The film follows a detective in London (who we assume will be played by McAvoy) who gets reacquainted with an old bank robber nemesis (probably Strong) five years after their last encounter. Apparently the script is very good with enough potential to get some financial backing at the Cannes Film Festival this week. If WELCOME TO THE PUNCH gets a buyer, we could see this thing start production in July.

This is being described as a crime thriller somewhat similar to HEAT which could be a good thing or a bad thing. So many times these types of thrillers fall flat, but I have faith in McAvoy. He seems to have a great eye when picking scripts so this may just be one to keep a lookout for.
