Mark Wahlberg hints at possible sequel for The Fighter

Last night at the 83rd Annual Academy Awards, Christian Bale and Melissa Leo took home best supporting actor and actress statues for their role in last year’s feel good film THE FIGHTER. All the audience heard regarding the boxing film, based on the brothers Dicky and Micky Ward, was how the film was a labor of love and it was extremely difficult to get made. Well, with it’s rousing success at the box office and from critics, producer Mark Wahlberg is hinting at a second and possible third round in the future. He states, “”Now, we’re gonna talk about doing No. 2. We’re gonna do the Ward/Gotti trilogy and make it real.” Apparently, Micky Ward went onto fight Arturo Gotti in two matches in 2002 and 2003 which were as exciting as the bout in THE FIGHTER.

Is he serious? Who knows but I guess this would be the time to hop on board the sequel bandwagon. I think the real question is whether or not he’ll be able to get Bale, Leo and Amy Adams back for another couple of rounds. I think that’s pretty doubtful, but Mark Wahlberg may have some tricks up his sleeve. As this news (or rumor) progresses, we’ll let you know.
