Martin Freeman and Ian McKellen star in Peter Jackson's The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey trailer

Fans have been waiting since RETURN OF THE  KING hit theaters to see THE HOBBIT on the big screen and today Peter Jackson revealed the first official trailer for the film that will be released next December.  I’ve already taken heat for being a naysayer of THE HOBBIT (although, admittedly, I’ll be there opening day), but the trailer feels a bit too familiar.  Maybe it was several recognizable characters or maybe it was the fact they used the same score from the first three, but it just felt like I’d seen this before.  Even with that, the film still looks impressive and should more than impress the casual Tolkein fan.

The film stars Martin Freeman, Andy Serkis, Hugo Weaving, Stephen Fry, Elijah Wood, Ian McKellen, Ian Holm, Brett McKenzie, Orlando Bloom, Evangeline Lilly, Benedict Cumberbatch, Luke Evans and Cate Blanchett.  THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY and part 2,  THE HOBBIT: THERE AND BACK AGAIN, open on December 14th, 2012 and December 13th, 2013 respectively.
