Matt Damon and Jessica Chastain return to sci-fi in the first trailer for The Martian
Ridley Scott is on a bit of a bad streak as of late. His last few films were the critically panned EXODUS: GODS AND KINGS, THE COUNSELOR, PROMETHEUS, ROBIN HOOD and really, you have to go back to 2001 to find a commercially and critically successful film in BLACK HAWK DOWN. So that begs the question; is Ridley Scott still one of Hollywood’s elite directors? I’m not so sure, but I tend to like his films more than most, so I’m giving him the benefit of the doubt. His next effort is the science-fiction film THE MARTIAN and he has a great concept and a heck of a cast to lead the way. Check out the first trailer for the film below.
The official synopsis of THE MARTIAN: During a manned mission to Mars, Astronaut Mark Watney (Matt Damon) is presumed dead after a fierce storm and left behind by his crew. But Watney has survived and finds himself stranded and alone on the hostile planet. With only meager supplies, he must draw upon his ingenuity, wit and spirit to subsist and find a way to signal to Earth that he is alive. Millions of miles away, NASA and a team of international scientists work tirelessly to bring “the Martian” home, while his crewmates concurrently plot a daring, if not impossible rescue mission. As these stories of incredible bravery unfold, the world comes together to root for Watney’s safe return. THE MARTIAN stars Matt Damon, Jessica Chastain, Kate Mara, Michael Peña, Jeff Daniels, Kristen Wiig, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Mackenzie Davis, Sean Bean, Donald Glover and Naomi Scott. The Ridley Scott directed film hits theaters on November 25th.
