Matt Damon and Paul Greengrass are returning for Bourne 5
So here’s what we think we know. Matt Damon is returning to the Bourne franchise as is director Paul Greengrass. This will mark the fifth Bourne film and the fourth for Matt Damon. Their film will hit theaters on July 15th, 2016. So what about that other Bourne film continuing the story of Aaron Cross (Jeremy Renner)? Supposedly, that film, with director Jeremy Lin, is still in play, but is delayed indefinitely while Damon and Greengrass get their film made. Unfortunately, we don’t know who’s writing the film or what direction their going (I think a team up of Jason Bourne and Aaron Cross is unlikely), but it’s early in the process and we’ll update as information becomes available.
It seems like rumors of a Damon and Greengrass reunion have been swirling around for a while, but every time one of them had been asked about it, the answer was always cryptic and noncommittal. But maybe there was a reason for that after all as the two were searching for a way to bring Jason Bourne back. The fourth Bourne film, BOURNE LEGACY complicated things for Damon and he had been vocal about his disapproval of where they took the story (drugs, really?). He had even gone as far as to say they basically ruined whatever direction he and Greengrass were going to take the franchise. But it seems like things got ironed out and they presumably have a story outline they like. Personally, I’m more than pleased to see Matt Damon and Paul Greengrass coming back to the Bourne franchise. So what do you think about their reunion? (Deadline)
