Matthew McConaughey, Emile Hirsch and Juno Temple star in the Killer Joe trailer
Matthew McConaughey is starting to choose some pretty good roles. After his Groupon bomb THE LINCOLN LAWYER, Matthew McConaughey took on roles in MUD, MAGIC MIKE, THE PAPER BOY and KILLER JOE. All of these films have some potential to showcase his talent, and I don’t mean those talented abs he likes to show off in all his films. Though I don’t really mind seeing Matthew McConaughey’s abs, and if he feels the need to flash them then who am I to complain.
KILLER JOE is being directed by William Friedkin (THE EXORCIST and RULES OF ENGAGEMENT) and follows Chris Smith (Emile Hirsch) who is in some serious debt that will cost him his life unless he comes up with a drastic plan. He turns to Killer Joe Cooper (Matthew McConaughey) and asks him to take out his mother for the insurance money. However, things start to go wrong when Killer Joe falls for Chris’s sister, Dottie (Juno Temple), and starts to change the rules of the game. KILLER JOE stars: Matthew McConaughey, Emile Hirsch, Juno Temple, Thomas Haden Church and Gina Gershon and is set to hit theaters on July 27, 2012.
On paper KILLER JOE sounds a little boring, but after watching this trailer I’m convinced that I need to see it. Matthew McConaughey appears to play an excellent villain and I hope he will choose more roles like KILLER JOE in the future. However, he is great in those fun movies like MAGIC MIKE so I’m glad that he’s continuing to do those on as well. Maybe Matthew McConaughey should just steer clear of romantic comedies like GHOSTS OF GIRLFRIENDS PAST and FOOL’S GOLD, those tend to shatter any positive reviews he’s gotten in the past. It’s too bad because romantic comedies can be golden, just not for everyone. Watch the trailer for KILLER JOE below.
