McG’s board game adaptation Ouija is halted by Universal

Posted by: Kristy Sturdivant

Earlier this year it was reported that the board game Ouija was being made into a film and a couple of directors were vying for a chance to sit behind the camera. McG (CHARLIE’S ANGELS) won the position but it looks like his communication with “the other side” has been halted by Universal Studios as they have opted to take a $5 million penalty and not go forward with the film. It’s unclear why the studio would back out of a potential blockbuster, but I have suspicions it has something to do with another board game coming to the big screen in the form of BATTLESHIP. Universal has thrown down $200 million on next year’s film and it’s possible they think it may not be as successful as originally intended.

If you are saddened by the fact that OUIJA isn’t coming to the big screen, don’t give up just yet as McG is still shopping the script around Tinseltown. It will be a tough sell, but we all know anything is possible in Hollywood.
