Mel Gibson is supposedly joining Sylvester Stallone and Jason Statham in The Expendables 3
Maybe it’s because I don’t pay too much attention to people when they’re drunk, but I can’t jump on the I-hate-Mel-Gibson bandwagon like a lot of people in the media. The guy makes great movies and continues to be one of the biggest screen presences working today, albeit not as much as he used to. It’s sad that he’s been so self-destructive lately and given the failure of THE BEAVER and GET THE GRINGO, it’s unlikely he’ll be able to turn things around. If you can weed your way through the ignorant and snarky column, Showbiz411 is reporting that Mel Gibson is going to be playing the villain in THE EXPENDABLES 3. Mel Gibson was approached at one point to direct the film, but that didn’t work out. We all know how Mel Gibson ended up relegated to playing villains, but it doesn’t mean I have to like it. This is a good move for Mel as he’ll be able to make a lot of friends in one shot and convince people he’s not the racist bigot he’s been made out to be. Of course, it also opens him up for a big relapse because if you get drunk with these guys, that’s a lot of A-list eyewitnesses. This of course comes hot off the heels of his villainous turn in MACHETE KILLS, which hits theaters this September. THE EXPENDABLES 3 hits theaters on August 15th, 2014.
It’s assumed most of the original cast from the first two films will return, including Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Dolph Lundgren, Bruce Willis, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Terry Crews and Randy Couture. It’s still unclear if Jet Li will make an appearance, but Mickey Rourke is slated to come back and they join newcomers Wesley Snipes, Jackie Chan, Milla Jovovich and Nicolas Cage. The director isn’t set in stone yet, but Stallone has tapped Australian director Patrick Hughes, who is in negotiations now.
