Melissa McCarthy is looking to join Bill Murray in St. Vincent De Van Nuys
I like Jason Bateman as much as the next ‘Arrested Development’ fan, but anyone that thinks the success of IDENTITY THIEF wasn’t because of Melissa McCarthy clearly isn’t paying attention. With a hit TV show and a string of funny movies, including the upcoming THE HEAT with Sandra Bullock, it’s clear that America loves Melissa McCarthy. With proven box office success, McCarthy will have her choice of good roles and apparently, one role she’s been eager to get is in the film ST. VINCENT DE VAN NUYS opposite Bill Murray. The film follows a young boy that befriends his WWII veteran neighbor, to be played by Bill Murray. Melissa McCarthy would be playing the boy’s single mother. The script from Ted Melfi is described as being in similar tone to AS GOOD AS IT GETS.
Before we get too excited, it should be noted that Melissa McCarthy technically hasn’t even gotten an offer yet, but she’s going to be getting it in her email inbox very soon. Given that she pushed to get the part, we can only assume that she’ll accept once it becomes official. If/when Melissa McCarthy accepts, filming will take place during her summer hiatus from ‘Mike & Molly’. (Deadline)
