Meryl Streep to play Margaret Thatcher in The Iron Lady

Posted by: Brad Sturdivant

The incomparable Meryl Streep is in negotiations to star as Margaret Thatcher in her upcoming biopic THE IRON LADY.  She’ll be reunited with her MAMMA MIA director Phyllida Lloyd.  Jim Broadbent is also in talks to star as Margaret’s husband, Dennis.  The project will be financed by Pathe films and they describe it as:

“tells the story of a woman who smashed through the barriers of gender and class to be heard in a male-dominated world. The story concerns power and the price that is paid for power, and is a surprising and insightful portrait of an extraordinary and complex woman.”

One day we’re going to look back at the career of Meryl Streep and be thankful we were alive when she was making her best movies.  Even though I don’t always enjoy her films, I have to admit that every performance she gives is incredible.  Portraying someone as iconic as Margaret Thatcher would be a challenge for anyone but Streep.  Something tells me we’ll be thinking Oscar when this one comes out.
