Michael Caine joins Matthew McConaughey and Anne Hathaway in Interstellar
Christopher Nolan is nothing if not consistent. He likes his actors and although the lead might change from Christian Bale to Hugh Jackman to Leonardo DiCaprio to Matthew McConaughey, the supporting cast remains the same. So it’s no surprise that Michael Caine will be joining Christopher Nolan for INTERSTELLAR, making it six in a row for the Caine-Nolan teaming. It has worked pretty well so far, so who can blame them for wanting to keep going? Adding Michael Caine to your movie instantly makes it more respectable (not that Nolan needs help with that).
This news is hot on the heels of the announcement that Jessica Chastain would be taking the third lead in the film, bringing the confirmed cast members to four, including Caine, Chastain, Matthew McConaughey and Anne Hathaway. In some other INTERSTELLAR tidbit news, Hoyte Van Hoytema will be the director of photography on the film, replacing Nolan’s longtime DoP Wally Pfister. Pfister is busy shooting TRANSCENDENCE with Johnny Depp, so Nolan had to find a replacement. Also, Hoytema will be shooting the INTERSTELLAR in IMAX, adding to the already grand scale of the film.
The plot of INTERSTELLAR is still being kept under wraps. What we do know is that it’s a combination of an original script from Christopher Nolan’s brother Jonathan Nolan and involves a group of explorers that go through a worm hole and get involved in time travel and alternate dimensions. But Nolan won’t be using the original script alone, he’s also merging some of his original ideas into Jonathan’s script, meaning it will be even more ambitious than the first draft suggested. With McConaughey, Hathaway and Chastain leading his cast, he should be able to pull off anything he wants to. All of this will be coming together for a Fall, 2014 release date. (Deadline)
