Michael Fassbender joins Colin Farrell and Cillian Murphy in At Swim-Two-Birds

Character actor Brendan Gleeson has been trying to make the classic Irish novel ‘At Swim-Two-Birds’ into a feature film for almost a decade now and even though he has some of Ireland’s most talented actors attached to the film, he couldn’t seem to get the key ingredient to all movies; money. But that may have changed and it might see the light of day sooner than later. The latest cast member to join is Michael Fassbender, who is quickly rising the Hollywood leading man depth chart after a great turn in X-MEN: FIRST CLASS. It’s probably a good move by Gleeson to lock him up now because he won’t be able to afford his salary in a few years.
The novel is difficult to summarize, but Time Magazine named it one of the best 100 novels of all time and their book critic Lev Grossman summarized it by saying: “a novel about a lazy, impoverished college student who’s writing a novel (“One beginning and one ending for a book is a thing I did not agree with,” he opines), but his characters won’t stay put, and they get mixed up with all kinds of local Dublin types and figures out of Gaelic myth—it’s like Ulysses played out in a comic mode, on a more human scale.”
Along with Fassbender, the committed cast members include Colin Farrell, Cillian Murphy, Gabriell Byrne and director Brendan Gleeson said he will also take a part. As of right now, Gleeson has not divulged who will play what part.
