Michael Shannon officially joins Henry Cavill and Amy Adams in Superman: Man of Steel

Today is a big day as far as details on the upcoming Superman reboot are concerned. In one press release, Warner Brothers managed to clear up three rumors that have been circling the project for a while. The first of which is the title of the film, which is officially “MAN OF STEEL”. That was the rumored title, but now we know for sure that’s what WB is going with. Whether or not “Superman” is anywhere in the title is still not clear. The second rumor is that General Zod (played by Terrence Stamp in SUPERMAN II) will be the villain in the new movie. And finally, they announced that Michael Shannon will in fact be playing General Zod. In referencing Shannon as Zod, director Zack Snyder said: “Zod is not only one of Superman’s most formidable enemies, but one of the most significant because he has insights into Superman that others don’t. Michael is a powerful actor who can project both the intelligence and the malice of the character, making him perfect for the role.”
So it looks like the major parts in Superman have been cast; Henry Cavill is Supes, Amy Adams is Lois Lane, Kevin Costner and Diane Lane are Pa and Ma Kent and now Shannon is General Zod. We still have a lot of smaller parts to be cast, but all in all, MAN OF STEEL has a pretty decent cast. Now the question remains whether or not Zack Snyder can make it work.
