Mila Kunis and James Franco circle Oz, the Great and Powerful

After her portrayal of bad girl ballerina in last year’s BLACK SWAN, Mila Kunis has been somewhat of a hot commodity in Hollywood. She was recently approached to star in two films, first AKIRA which is an adaptation of an anime classic that Warner Bros. is pulling together with the Hughes Brothers directing (they did last year’s BOOK OF ELI where they worked with Kunis) and the other film she was courted for was OZ, THE GREAT AND POWERFUL. You all may remember that this film had some heavy hitters attached (Johnny Depp and Robert Downey, Jr.) before they dropped and James Franco was circling and now it looks like both Franco and Kunis are in talks to take on the film. Franco of course will play the young wizard who gets swept to Oz in his hot air balloon during a tornado and Kunis would play Theodorah, who has a love connection with the wizard before she eventually turns into the Wicked Witch of the West. Like I said, neither are completely confirmed, but Franco became more committed when Kunis showed interest so this looks pretty promising and they did work together on the film DATE NIGHT.
The film will be directed by Sam Raimi and will probably hit theaters sometime in 2013.
