Naomi Watts shines as Princess Diana in the biopic, Diana
I never understood the fascination with Princess Diana, nor how a country’s obsession could lead to her untimely death, but it seemed the entire world loved her. DIANA is the story of her love for Dr. Khan and the tragedy and obstacles they faced as they tried to be together. The first trailer feels a little like a made for TV movie, but given the subject matter, it’s hard to do it justice in a trailer. Watch it below and see for yourself. DIANA stars Naomi Watts, Naveen Andrews, Douglas Hodge, Geraldine James, Juliet Stevenson and Charles Edwards. The Oliver Hirschbiegel directed film doesn’t have an official US release date, but it should hit theaters sometime later this year.
DIANA official synopsis: Diana takes audiences into the private realm of one the world’s most iconic and inescapably public women — the Princess of Wales, Diana (Naomi Watts) — in the last two years of her meteoric life. On the occasion of the 16th anniversary of her sudden death, acclaimed director Oliver Hirschbiegel (Downfall) explores Diana’s final rite of passage: a secret love affair with Pakistani heart surgeon Hasnat Khan (Naveen Andrews), the human complications of which reveal the Princess’s climactic days in a compelling new light.
