Natalie Portman, Jeremy Renner and Javier Bardem could join Michael Fassbender in The Counselor
Since Cormac McCarthy first announced that he was writing his first spec script, THE COUNSELOR, Hollywood has been all in a tizzy. The announcement was barely finished and the project had A-list talent running for a chance to be in the film. The first role went to Michael Fassbender, who will be playing a cocky lawyer that thinks he can handle the drug business. If Twitch is to be believed, then either Jeremy Renner or Javier Bardem will take the role of a drug criminal that brings the lawyer into the business. But there are other key male parts as well, so chances are good they’re not vying for the same part.
And if all goes well, Natalie Portman will take the role of the lawyer’s fiancee, which is considered the female lead. Portman hasn’t filmed anything since BLACK SWAN and this would be one heck of a role for her to return to. As is always the case with Hollywood, nothing is set in stone until filming starts (and even then, it can change), but if this comes through, it would be a great cast. Filming starts this summer and look for THE COUNSELOR to be all the buzz during the 2013 awards season.
