Natalie Portman takes Jobs with Michael Fassbender

Danny Boyle’s Steve Jobs biopic has already had quite a tumultuous development cycle and until today, we hadn’t even gotten the first official casting decision.  Aside from the various actors that have attached themselves and then dropped out of the lead role, including Leonardo DiCaprio and Christian Bale, the film couldn’t even keep a studio and was shunned by Sony, only to be picked up by Universal.  But now that the film has a home, it looks like the casting decisions are picking up.  Michael Fassbender was rumored to be taking over the lead role a while ago, but now it looks like he’s officially attached to the project.  But maybe the bigger news is that Natalie Portman is also in talks to join the film in an unspecified role, although most trades are speculating she would be Jobs’ daughter.

So to recap, Aaron Sorkin wrote the screenplay, Danny Boyle is going to direct, Michael Fassbender might star as Steve Jobs and Natalie Portman might be the female lead.  If all of this comes together, we could be in for one heck of a film.  But when it comes to JOBS, I think it’s best not to count your chickens before they hatch.
