New Moon Breaks Records on its way to the top of the Box Office

Posted by: Brad Sturdivant

Wow.  I’m…in awe.  I don’t know how to verbalize my shock/disappointment with this week’s box office numbers.  I think we all knew NEW MOON would do well at the box office, but $140 million?  Really?  For those of you keeping track, NEW MOON now has the third highest grossing weekend in box office history and has the largest single day total with $72 million.  And that wasn’t the only surprise this weekend as Sandra Bullock’s THE BLIND SIDE managed over $34 million.  I found the whole concept of THE BLIND SIDE odd since the story just happened and they still took some liberties with the plot.  You would think they’d try to keep it grounded considering every football fan lived through the story in the last NFL draft.  I also figured 2012 would have held its audience a little better considering there was nothing else at the theaters that would appeal to most men.  But oh well.  The world belongs to Twilight fans and I’m just living in it.
