Nick Cassavetes replaces Liam Neeson, who replaced Mel Gibson in a cameo in The Hangover 2

Although I liked it, the general feeling about the first trailer for THE HANGOVER Part 2 was mostly negative. Complaints range from “we’ve seen that before” to “this flat out isn’t funny”, so I can imagine that director Todd Phillips is feeling some pressure to deliver a hit and therefore, has gone back to the cutting room floor. One scene that didn’t make the cut was the scene immediately following Liam Neeson’s cameo, which means that the cameo doesn’t make any sense now. Therefore, Phillips is having to go back and re-shoot the mysterious cameo scene. Unfortunately, Liam Neeson is off filming CLASH OF THE TITANS 2 (unfortunate for many reasons) and is unable to participate. Therefore, Todd had to call in some help in the form of Nick Cassavetes.
The cameo in question was the one that was going to go to Mel Gibson, but Zach Galifianakis threw a hissy fit and they had to go with Neeson. Personally, I would have liked for them to stick with Gibson and it seems they’ve taken a slight step backwards with each new casting. THE HANGOVER PART II opens everywhere May 26th, 2011.
