Nicolas Winding Refn hints at a Drive sequel with Ryan Gosling
There were two movies last year that I’ve recommended to everyone that would listen; WARRIOR and DRIVE. They’re both fantastic films and it still pains me that neither of them found any success at the box office (DRIVE made $35 million and WARRIOR made $13 million). My only hope at this point is that DRIVE finds success when it hits Blu-ray this coming Tuesday. But for those that have seen it and know how spectacular it is, there’s hope that a sequel could still be a possibility. While doing an interview with The Shortlist, Refn was asked about the possibility of doing a sequel and the director said “Well I think that… hmm. Let me just say that I haven’t made up my mind yet. Stranger things have happened…“
True, that’s not much to go on, but there’s still hope. The hope is slightly greater because the original author of ‘Drive’, James Sallis recently announced that his follow-up ‘Driven’ will hit bookstores this April. Obviously, given our excitement for DRIVE and the possibility of a sequel, we’ll keep you posted if things progress.
