Nicole Kidman is in, Tobey Maguire and Sofia Vergara are out of Lee Daniels’ The Paperboy

Since his film PRECIOUS: BASED ON THE NOVEL PUSH BY SAPPHIRE debuted to rave reviews a couple of years ago, Lee Daniels has been a hot commodity in Hollywood. Unfortunately, he can’t seem to get any projects off the ground. His civil rights project SELMA fell through, but THE PAPERBOY is the close to seeing the light of day, with Zac Efron and Matthew McConaughey still attached to star. But given how long it has taken to get into production, the film has lost Sofia Vergara and Tobey Maguire. However, it looks like Nicole Kidman will step in for the recently departed Vergara, so all is not lost.
The film is about the two sons of a newspaper magnate and the investigation of what might be a wrongfully imprisoned man that was accused of killing the sheriff. Kidman will play a woman with a dark side that gets to know the inmate through letters and brings the case to the reporters. The film is based off the novel of the same name by Peter Dexter.
