Oliver Stone looking to direct Travis McGee with Leonardo DiCaprio

Leonardo DiCaprio is filling up the news section the past couple of days.  Yesterday we learned that the A-lister is looking to star in Clint Eastwood’s HOOVER and today it looks like the long gestating TRAVIS MCGEE might finally have a director.  Oliver Stone is in talks to direct Leo in the film that’s about a beach bum that goes on treasure hunts for clients and ends up taking most of the money and subsequently getting into a lot of dangerous situations.  The film is actually based off the book ‘The Deep Blue Goodbye” by John D. MacDonald.  Dana Stevens and Kario Salem wrote the screenplay.

Leo tends to like films that feature a very healthy dose of Leo and this one seems to fit that bill.  It sounds like an interesting enough story and I like the fact that MacDonald’s original stories took place in and around Florida.  Hopefully they’ll hold true to the book and do most of the filming down here in Florida.
