Olivia Wilde joins Joaquin Phoenix, Rooney Mara and Amy Adams in Spike Jonze's iPhone film
I think the jury is still out on whether or not Olivia Wilde is going to be a long term success in Hollywood, but the beautiful actress seems to be doing the right things. Her penchant for comedies is endearing, but she’s careful not to get pigeon holed into a genre and has branched out into big budget summer fare as well as dramas and indie films. I’m not convinced Olivia Wilde is the best actress around, but she does seem versatile and although I haven’t liked all her movies, it’s never been her fault I didn’t like them. Next up for the former ‘House’ star is a role in Spike Jonze’s upcoming untitled romance film that revolves around an iPhone.
Exact details are still unclear, but we do know that the story is about a man that falls in love with a Siri-like female voice, which we can assume is on the iPhone. We also know that Joaquin Phoenix, Rooney Mara, Amy Adams and Samantha Morton are all already on board the project. With that, we can deduce that Phoenix will be the lead star, since he’s the only male actor signed on so far. I would also have to assume at least one of the women will be the voice of the computer, but I wouldn’t venture to guess who that might be.
This also marks the first full-length feature film Spike Jonze has written, although he did assist in writing his last movie, WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE, back in 2009. That was one of my favorite films of ’09 and it seems everything Jonze does is both creative and entertaining. He’s assembled a great cast already, but with the addition of Olivia Wilde, it’s hard not to get really excited to see what he does with this project. (Deadline)
