Oscar Nominee Octavia Spencer joins Chris Evans and Tilda Swinton in Snow Piercer

I’m guessing that “Oscar Nominee” title will switch to “Oscar Winner” come the end of February. But Octavia Spencer who has won most of the major awards for her performance in THE HELP has just signed on to star in Bong Joon-Ho’s Sci-fi thriller SNOW PIERCER. This will be Bong Joon-Ho’s first English Speaking directing gig. His most recognizable film was the Korean monster movie THE HOST that I found over-hyped, especially since it was compared to JAWS. However, I won’t be too hard on him as I’m sure with a bigger budget and a few stars he might pull out decent film.
Kelly Masterson (BEFORE THE DEVIL KNOWS YOUR DEAD) has written the most recent script based on the French Graphic novel “La Transperceneige.” The story is set in the future where an Ice Age has killed all life except for those on a train that continues to travel the globe powered by a sacred perpetual-motion engine. Obviously there becomes a class division and eventual revolt among the small society. Spencer will play a mother who joins the revolt to save her son. Chris Evans, Tilda Swinton, John Hurt, Jamie Bell and Song Kang-Ho will also star in the film.
