Penelope Cruz might be the next Bond girl
News that originates from across the pond typically has to be taken with a grain of salt, but this latest rumor makes too much sense not to be true. It’s being rumored that Penelope Cruz is in negotiations to be the next Bond girl. This makes sense for a variety of reasons, but first and foremost, it’s common knowledge that the Bond producers have tried to get Penelope Cruz in the past and that there was mutual interest. But for whatever reason, it just never happened. Penelope Cruz’s schedule is considerably less busy now and the actress has shown a willingness to star in blockbusters (PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: ON STRANGER TIDES) or potential blockbusters (SAHARA). But maybe the biggest reason it makes sense is that Penelope Cruz is married to Javier Bardem, who did such a great job as the villain in SKYFALL. Of course, all of this is just a rumor but according to Yahoo UK “The discussions have been going on for some time and they are working out the contract details now.”
I doubt it’s any coincidence that the first casting rumor is hot on the heels of word that not only will Sam Mendes direct the next Bond film, but that he might direct the next two Bond films. Having an Oscar winning director attached that has already proven his ability with the Bond franchise is sure to attract all kinds of top level talent.
