Peter Berg confirms that a Friday Night Lights film is on the way

I never jumped on the FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS train. I’ve been meaning to check it out and see what all the hoopla is about especially since it is on Netflix.
There was word a couple weeks ago that a film was on the way. I was surprised as the show seemed more or less to have a cult following rather than a solid viewership.
Director Peter Berg has now come out to say that the film is on track and a script is being written. He also notes that, “We’re very serious about trying to do it.” This would be a continuation of the show’s finale with Connie Britton and Kyle Chandler starring. They mention that the rest of the cast would follow suit.
Universal Pictures would be the one handling the film. The studio also housed 2004’s FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS with Billy Bob Thornton which the series was a spin-off of. The series surrounded, ” a high school football team based in fictional Dillon, Texas, with particular focus given to team coach Eric Taylor (Kyle Chandler) and his family. The show uses this small-town backdrop to address many issues facing contemporary Middle America, including school funding, racism, drugs, abortion, and lack of economic opportunities.”
