Peter Berg picks Mark Wahlberg as his Six Billion Dollar Man
Mark Wahlberg will be reuniting with his LONE SURVIVOR director Peter Berg for the adaptation of the 70’s TV show ‘The Six Million Dollar Man’, except their version will be called THE SIX BILLION DOLLAR MAN. Because, you know, inflation. For those that don’t remember, or weren’t alive when Lee Majors made the role famous, the film will follow Steve Austin, who gets badly injured during a plane crash, but gets bionic replacements for his legs, right arm and left eye. His new abilities make him a valuable agent for the Office of Scientific Intelligence.
It’s tempting to go on a long diatribe about how frustrating it is that Hollywood keeps remaking lame TV shows into big budget movies, but I’m used to that by now. If anything, the weak link in this remake is Peter Berg, who keeps getting big budgets, but has yet to make a decent blockbuster type movie. HANCOCK was a letdown and BATTLESHIP was unwatchable, so he can only ride the success of ‘Friday Night Lights’ for so long. Overall, it’s hard to get too excited for THE SIX BILLION DOLLAR MAN, but maybe Peter Berg will surprise us.
