Peter Pan projects at both Sony and Disney

A project that has been stirring around Tinseltown the last month is a prequel to the Peter Pan story line that is being led up by Channing Tatum (I know, that sounds weird to me too). Apparently he pitched the idea for the film PETER PAN BEGINS which from what I understand takes the characters of Peter and Captain Hook and has them as brothers, which doesn’t really make sense but we don’t have a whole lot of script details right now. Sony picked up this gem for around $1 million and is currently in the script writing process. Disney has decided that Peter Pan is the next big idea and they are now considering a prequel themselves and basing the story on the children’s book “Peter and the Starcatchers” which follows Peter and his buddy Molly as they adventure around London looking for treasure. Disney is not fully committed to this prequel and they don’t really need a new pirate gig until about five years from now, but we’ll be keeping an eye out for more information.

I love the story of Peter Pan and even though I don’t mind different takes on the story (I adored Dustin Hoffman in HOOK), I generally don’t like prequels and I don’t like the thought of Channing Tatum involved. I don’t know why, it just seems like a weird role for him.
