Philip Seymour Hoffman: 1967 – 2014
Academy Award winning actor Philip Seymour Hoffman was found dead in his Manhattan apartment this morning at the age of 46. The cause of death is not known, but it was recently revealed that he had been battling a drug addiction. It’s unfair to speculate the cause of death, but what is known is that he will be sorely missed. Philip Seymour Hoffman is best known for his roles in movies like THE MASTER, CAPOTE and DOUBT. He was most recently seen as Plutarch Heavensbee in THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE.
On a personal level, this news hits hard as Philip Seymour Hoffman was always one of my favorite actors and has starred in some of my favorite films. I remember watching him for the first time in TWISTER and although he had a small part in it, I thought he stole the show. He also delivered two of the best performances in two Paul Thomas Anderson films, BOOGIE NIGHTS and MAGNOLIA, the latter being one of my favorite films. And of course, he again stole the show as Lester Bangs in Cameron Crowe’s ALMOST FAMOUS, delivering some of the most memorable lines. He won his Academy Award for CAPOTE, but that was just one of his many great performances. He will be missed. (ABCNews)
UPDATE: Unfortunately, it looks like his body was found with a syringe in his arm, with bags of what is believed to be heroin around him. (NBCNews)
