Philip Seymour Hoffman may join Jennifer Lawrence in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire
Now that the first installment in THE HUNGER GAMES is behind us, it’s time to start some major casting for the sequel THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE which is set to start shooting later this fall. Right now the potential big sign on may be veteran thespian Philip Seymour Hoffman, who has been offered the role of Plutarch Heavensbee. For those unfamiliar with the character of Plutarch, he’s the Gamemaker for the 75th Annual Hunger Games in the second book and also has a role in the third book which is pretty significant as well. It’s actually a great casting choice and it would be fantastic if Philip Seymour Hoffman took the gig since he is a stellar actor and would bring so much to the character of Plutarch. Put Philip Seymour Hoffman, Jennifer Lawrence and Woody Harrelson all in one scene and for some reason that just makes me happy.
So if Philip Seymour Hoffman decides to board THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE film that still leaves quite a few major roles up in the air that need to be filled. Off the top of my head I’m thinking about Finnick Odair (rumored to have both Robert Pattinson and Taylor Kitsch circling, but thankfully has fallen through), Johanna Mason (last year Kristen Bell was pushing hard for this gig, but no more news on that front) and of course the other tributes and former Hunger Games winners. It’ll be fun to watch which names come up and who eventually gets the roles so we’ll of course keep you posted as soon as we hear something.
Oh, and for those who missed it, THE HUNGER GAMES, starring Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth, will be available on Blu-ray August 18th, 2012. That should hold us all over until THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE is released in theaters on November 22, 2013. (Deadline)
