Potential collaboration between Paul Thomas Anderson and Robert Downey, Jr.

This news is in such early stages that it may be even too soon to announce, but the fact that there are rumors floating around makes it just too exciting to ignore. Director Paul Thomas Anderson wants to adapt the popular novel Inherent Vice, by Thomas Pynchon into a book and would like to have Robert Downey, Jr. star as the lead character Larry “Doc” Sportello. Are you a little excited yet? Well hold on, like we said, this is very early speculation because RDJ is booked solid shooting until around November of next year but it may just take Paul Thomas Anderson that long to adapt this book about “a pothead private eye wandering through the Summer (and winter) of Love in 1969 Los Angeles.”
From what I’ve read Thomas Pynchon is a little paranoid and skittish, to put it lightly. He’s one of those brilliant minds that keeps to themselves and lives in obscurity while pumping out consistently good material every so often. Apparently Paul Thomas Anderson has also been considered a little overly suspicious and paranoid throughout the industry, so the collaboration between these two creative minds sounds like a perfect marriage. Add in RDJ and you have a great film on your hands, but seriously people, don’t get your hopes up just yet.
