Ray Winstone to star in The Sweeney for director Nick Love

Posted by: Brad Sturdivant

I can’t say I’m familiar with the 1970’s British cop show ‘The Sweeney’, but the basic premise is that it featured a “tough as nails” cop (aren’t all TV show cops tough as nails?) that worked in the Flying Squad that specialized in tracking violent crimes and armed robbery.  The original show starred John Thaw, Dennis Waterman and Garfield Morgan.  Of course they’re going to make this into a movie and leading up that violent crimes division will be Ray Winstone.  Nick Love is writing and directed the project and no other actors have been cast at this point.

Although it’s always disappointing to read about another TV show being made into a film, I’ve become a fan of Ray Winstone over the years and a tough cop seems to suit his talents very well.  He just seems like the kind of guy that would beat your brains in and then start asking some questions.
