The Silver Linings Playbook Film Review, Synopsis, Plot: Based on the novel by Matthew Quick, David O. Russell’s new comedy drama THE SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK, features Bradley Cooper who plays Pat Solitano, a former high school teacher who has lost his house, his job and his wife, and eventually suffers from a mental break down and is put into a hospital for nearly a year. When Pat gets out on a plea bargain, he moves back in with his parents, Pat and Dolores (played by Academy Award winner Robert De Niro and Academy Award nominee Jacki Weaver), to get his life back on track, transition back into the real world, deal with his personal issues and possibly get back together with his ex-wife. And if his family has it their way he would also become an avid fan of the Philadelphia Eagles like the rest of them.

The Silver Linings Playbook, starring Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper

During a dinner party with some friends, Pat meets Tiffany (Jennifer Lawrence, riding high off of her Hunger Games fame) who happens to be his next door neighbor. Tiffany is herself going through a rough time as someone close to her has just passed away and her abrupt attitude both intrigues and frustrates Pat. Tiffany offers to help Pat get back together with his ex-wife, but only if he helps her with an issue in return.  Eventually Pat and Tiffany form an unlikely bond while trying to deal with their personal issues. Their friendship reminds them that one must take everything life throws at you and try to have a more positive outlook on any given situation, therefore creating a silver lining. Surely the two will find their way to deal with their personal demons and discover that they are meant to be together as they truly bring out the best in each other.

The Silver Linings Playbook film review

Besides being the highly anticipated big screen adaptation of a beloved novel, THE SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK is almost as famous for being the movie that created the rift between director David O. Russell and his BFF, actor Mark Wahlberg (although they’ve supposedly made up now).  Supposedly, Wahlberg desperately wanted to play Pat and was upset at Russell when he gave the part to Bradley Cooper instead.  It’s surprising that Russell would take the chance of angering Wahlberg since Russell has a history of having flare ups with actors like George Clooney (THREE KINGS) and Lily Tomlin (I HEART HUCKABEES).  But Cooper got the part and we’ll see if it pays off.
