Robert Downey Jr. and Robert Duvall are teaming up for The Judge
Robert Downey Jr. has been attached to the dramedy THE JUDGE for a while now, but back November, it was reported that Jack Nicholson was in talks to join RDJ in the film. But Jack Nicholson doesn’t take many roles these days and so the filmmakers have turned their attention to Robert Duvall, who signed on to the film earlier today. Although a Jack Nicholson and Robert Downey Jr. teaming is the stuff Hollywood dreams are made of, Robert Duvall is a fine replacement and should do great in the role (he does great in everything). Fred Dobkin (WEDDING CRASHERS) is set to direct.
The film follows a lawyer (Robert Downey Jr.) that returns home when his mother dies, only to find out that his senile, former judge of a father (Robert Duvall) is the lead suspect. Elizabeth Banks and Vera Farmiga are both in the running to play the female lead of Robert Downey Jr.’s ex-girlfriend. The current draft of the script was penned by Bill Dubuque, but the script has had several re-writes, which is usually a cause for concern. It’s believed that Robert Downey Jr. will make this his next film since he’s currently on a hiatus from playing Iron Man in the various Marvel movies. (Variety)
